Returning to Class

Whether you have been away for a few weeks, a few months, or much longer, you are welcome to return whenever the time feels right for you.

Over the years, my understanding of teaching has continued to evolve. One of the most valuable lessons has been learning how to better support students with different goals, learning styles, schedules, and rates of progress.

Every student arrives with a unique background and follows a unique path. Some enjoy moving slowly and steadily. Some have more time available for practice. Others balance study with work, family, and many other responsibilities. I believe all of these approaches are valid.

For this reason, the focus of our group classes is not on who learns the fastest or who has practiced the most. Instead, the focus is on learning together through repetition, observation, and consistent practice.

In class, students are encouraged to work at their own pace while participating in a shared learning experience. The goal is not to keep up with someone else. The goal is to develop a deeper understanding of your own practice over time.

To support this approach, I continue to organize classes so that students with similar learning rhythms and levels of commitment can practice together. This helps create a more comfortable environment where students can focus on learning rather than comparison.

Students who wish to study at a faster pace, explore additional material, or follow a different learning schedule may also choose private instruction. This allows greater flexibility while preserving the relaxed and supportive atmosphere of the group classes.

If you have been away, there is no need to catch up before returning. Simply begin where you are. The most important step is simply coming back to practice.

I also encourage you to visit the Learning & Practice page, which explains more about our approach to study, practice, and participation within the learning community.

If you have questions about returning, choosing a class, or finding the best place to begin again, please feel free to contact me. I am always happy to help.

When you are ready, I look forward to practicing with you again.
