WUDANG SANFENG TRADITION
The Wu Dang San Feng Lineage
The Wudang Zhang Sanfeng tradition is one of the classical roots of Tai Chi,
known for its emphasis on softness, clarity of intention,
and the harmony of body, breath, and spirit.
Rather than focusing on force or competition,
this tradition teaches movement that is steady, natural,
and aligned with the rhythms of life.
For generations, practitioners have passed down
not only techniques, but a way of seeing the world,
one that values sincerity, timing, and quiet strength.
I hold deep respect for my teacher, Master Shixing Chen,
not only for his skill and knowledge,
but for his humility, steadiness, and the sincerity he brings to the art.
Recognized in China as a leading contemporary martial artist,
his reputation comes from decades of dedicated practice,
careful study, and wholehearted commitment to the internal arts.
His journey continues to inspire me,
not through grand gestures,
but through the quiet discipline and clarity he embodies every day.
It is an honor to study under him.
As a Tai Chi instructor, I believe that continuing to learn from my teacher
is essential, not only to refine my own practice,
but to share his depth of understanding with my students
in a way that is authentic, grounded, and true to the spirit of the lineage.
The first video below offers a glimpse into his path
and his approach to the internal arts.
The second reflects why traditional, face‑to‑face learning
remains meaningful to me,
and why I value this lineage with such sincerity.

How This Tradition Lives in Our Tao Tai Chi Studio
At Tao Tai Chi Studio,
the Wudang influence appears not as a strict system,
but as a quiet foundation:
• movement that follows natural principles
• breath that guides intention
• practice that grows slowly and steadily
• respect for timing, rhythm, and personal readiness
• learning that feels sincere rather than rushed
Students do not need prior experience
or knowledge of lineage to begin.
The tradition is simply the soil beneath the practice,
supportive, steady, and always present.
A Tradition of
Sincerity and Timing
In the Wudang view,
practice begins when the right elements come together:
the moment, the intention, and the person.
There is no need to force progress
or compare oneself with others.
Each step unfolds naturally
when the heart is ready.
This is the spirit we follow in our studio.
