Why This Statement Exists
Over the years, students have occasionally asked an important question:
“What belongs to tradition, and what belongs to the project itself?”
It is a thoughtful question.
Traditional arts are passed from generation to generation.
No single teacher creates the art itself.
At the same time, every teacher contributes something through years of study, practice, teaching, observation, and experience.
This statement exists to clarify that distinction.
It is intended to honor tradition, acknowledge lineage, and identify the original contributions that have emerged through the development of Earthing Tai Chi.
Traditional Knowledge and Cultural Heritage
The Tai Chi, Qigong, and related training methods taught through Tao Tai Chi Studio are part of a much larger historical and cultural tradition.
These arts have been developed, preserved, practiced, and transmitted by countless practitioners across many generations.
I do not claim ownership of traditional Tai Chi.
I do not claim ownership of traditional Qigong.
I do not claim ownership of the historical teachings, principles, or cultural heritage from which these practices originate.
These traditions belong to a living lineage that extends far beyond any individual teacher.
My role is to study, practice, preserve, interpret, and transmit what I have learned.
Lineage and Transmission
Traditional arts survive through transmission.
Every student learns from those who came before.
Every teacher receives knowledge that was entrusted to them through years of training and personal effort.
I consider myself both a student and a teacher within this ongoing process.
The forms, exercises, principles, and training methods presented within my teaching are part of a larger tradition that deserves respect and careful stewardship.
Whenever possible, I strive to acknowledge the sources, influences, and historical roots that have contributed to my own development.
The preservation of lineage remains an important responsibility.
My Original Contributions
While I do not claim ownership of traditional Tai Chi itself, the structure and educational framework known as Earthing Tai Chi represents my own independent work.
Beginning in 2023, I started developing Earthing Tai Chi as a response to a question that emerged repeatedly in my teaching:
How can traditional practice remain meaningful and accessible within the realities of modern life?
The resulting project includes original contributions that have developed through years of observation, teaching, experimentation, refinement, and practical experience.
These contributions include, but are not limited to:
-
The Earthing Tai Chi project concept
-
The Earthing Tai Chi name and educational framework
-
Seasonal Learning Path design
-
Course sequencing and progression structure
-
Multi-path learning options
-
Modern Path and Traditional Path integration model
-
Guided Practice Session format
-
Educational materials, written explanations, and supporting content
-
Project development archives and creator notes
-
Original essays, articles, reflections, and teaching documents published through Tao Tai Chi Studio
These elements represent my personal creative work and educational design.
The Development Archive
One of the reasons I maintain a public Development Archive is to document the evolution of these ideas over time.
The archive records:
-
Project updates
-
Educational observations
-
Structural changes
-
Design decisions
-
Teaching reflections
-
New developments
These records serve both educational and historical purposes.
They also document the ongoing development of the Earthing Tai Chi methodology.
Sharing, Learning, and Respect
I welcome students, teachers, researchers, and practitioners who wish to learn from the ideas presented through this project.
Traditional arts grow through sincere exchange.
Thoughtful discussion, educational reference, and respectful sharing are encouraged.
However, I ask that the original source be acknowledged whenever these materials are referenced.
Respect for tradition includes respect for the work of living contributors.

A Martial Arts Perspective
Traditional martial arts teach both openness and responsibility.
Knowledge is shared.
Effort is respected.
Lineage is honored.
Contributions are acknowledged.
I believe these principles remain relevant today.
Protecting original work is not opposed to generosity.
Rather, it helps preserve honesty, accountability, and respect within the learning process.
Looking Forward
Earthing Tai Chi continues to evolve.
Future developments, observations, and refinements will continue to be documented through the project’s public archives.
My hope is that this work contributes, in its own small way, to the continuing life of traditional practice in the modern world.
Respectfully,
Jing Shuai
